Matt's Bio

Lead Guide 

Born and raised in Minnesota, Matt grew up exploring the outdoors and learning backcountry skills on canoeing trips in the Boundary Waters with his dad. A passion for the outdoors was polished over time through the many road trips out West, revealing the towering mountains and vast deserts awaiting his exploration. As a kid, Matt’s curiosity for rock climbing was sparked by the sight of a few tiny climbers scaling Devil’s Tower from the ground below. Once he tried climbing for himself, Matt discovered his primary outdoor passion. Since then, Matt has moved to Phoenix where he has lived the last 6 years.
 
Matt has been guiding backpacking and climbing trips throughout Arizona and Colorado Rockies since 2018. His growth-driven mindset has allowed him to quickly advance his experience in the outdoor industry, where he has poured most of his energy into progressing his skills on the rock. Matt’s heart for people has complimented his technical skills, allowing him to cultivate a welcoming client experience while providing quality instruction.
 
Matt is a Wilderness First Responder, has taken the American Mountain Guides Association (AMGA) Single Pitch Instructor Course, and is an AMGA Apprentice Rock Guide.
