GRANITE MOUNTAIN GUIDES WELCOMES NEW OWNER, MEGAN HERRERA, AND
ANNOUNCES STRATEGIC EXPANSION ACROSS ARIZONA

Arizona’s professional guiding company embarks on a new chapter of growth and community leadership.

Prescott, Arizona —November 13, 2025 — Granite Mountain Guides, LLC (GMG), a leading
provider of professional climbing instruction and guided outdoor experiences throughout
Arizona, is proud to announce new ownership and an exciting vision for the company’s next
chapter.

Effective October 5, 2025, Megan Herrera has acquired Granite Mountain Guides from founder Mac McCaleb, marking a milestone moment for the Arizona climbing community.
Herrera, a climber, educator, and passionate outdoor advocate, brings over nine years of
experience in the outdoor industry, including roles with NOLS Wilderness Medicine, Sierra
Mountaineering International and H2O Guides. Her career has centered on exceptional client care and providing opportunities for people to explore wild places safely.

“I’m excited to carry forward the strong foundation that Mac McCaleb built and to
lead Granite Mountain Guides into a new era of growth,” said Herrera. “GMG has
always been about sharing the beauty of Arizona’s climbing with the community.
We’ll continue that legacy while expanding opportunities for youth, families, and
adventurers of all levels.”

Under McCaleb’s leadership, GMG established itself as a trusted climbing service known for its team of AMGA-certified guides and access to Arizona’s top climbing areas. Herrera intends to fortify this team while expanding programming statewide.

“Our staff is truly the heart of Granite Mountain Guides. I’m grateful for the
professionalism, expertise, and passion they bring to every client experience.
Supporting this outstanding team is one of my top priorities as we move forward.”

Expanding the Vision
GMG will continue offering its full range of guided climbing trips and instructional courses across Prescott, Phoenix, and Tucson, while introducing several new initiatives:

● Youth Climbing Programs that develop skills and confidence in young climbers
● Family Climbing Days for parents and children to learn and adventure together
● Corporate Team-Building Adventures designed for leadership and collaboration
● Skills Progression Courses to help climbers grow toward advanced goals
● Future Expansion Across Arizona: Broadening GMG’s reach into new regions to offer
diverse climbing and outdoor experiences statewide.

Community, Education, and Outdoor Leadership
Outside of guiding, Herrera is also an experienced dance instructor in Prescott, helping students of all ages build confidence and body awareness through movement. She brings those same values—education, empowerment, and growth—to her leadership at GMG.
McCaleb expressed his support for the transition:

“Granite Mountain Guides has been a passion project for me, and I couldn’t be
happier to see Megan taking the helm. I have full confidence in her vision,
experience, and dedication to Arizona’s climbing community.”

Looking Forward
As GMG enters this new phase, Herrera’s broader mission is to position Arizona as America’s
Winter Season Climbing Destination, attracting climbers, families, and travelers from across the country. Over the next five years, GMG will expand its team, refine its programs, and develop sustainable, year-round operations that connect more people to the outdoors through the power of climbing.
